The Inshore Lifeboat crew were paged by Humber Coastguard at 03.18 to go to the assitance of a missing person with suspected injurys, due to the weather connditions the ALB was also launched to back up the ILB. The ILB launched into a moderate swell with A Trower at the Helm making best speed towards Atwick 8 miles away. The ALB launched with coxswain S Mckie at the helm some 10mins later. Both lifeboats were tasked to do a shore line search from Atwick to Hornsea while on route a mobile Coastguard unit found the casuality at the bottom of the cliffs at Atwick but had no way of reaching the casuality. The coastguard requested the ILB to land on the beach and adminstrate first aid. Helmsman Trower assesed the condition of the sea with his crew and then decided it was safe to beach the ILB on the beach just south of the casuilty. Once on scene the crew gave 1st Aid while the coastguard tasked Rescue Helicopter128 to winch the casuilty to saftey. The casuality was then tranfered to Hospital. The ILB then asked the ALB to iluminate the area due to the breaking waves while the ILB tryed to head out to sea the ALB fired 5 white flares and used it search lights to light up the area but the ILB was hit by a set of breaking waves resulting in the crew been Washed out of the boat and into the sea A Trower received a nasty blow which resulted in him needing 1st Aid from his fellow crewman. A Trower was put on oxygen and was having diffulculty in breathing Coxswain S Mckie asked the coastguard to requested rescue Helicopter 128 to return to the scene after dropping of the 1st casuality at hospital and recover A Trower due to his condition. After re fueling Heli 128 returned to the scene and air lifted crewman L Crozier to the cliff top who was beginning to feel the effects of his ordeal and airlifted crewman A Trower to Hull Royal Infirmary where it was discovered that he had cracked a rib and punchered a lung. The Task then began of recovering the other 2 crewman and the ILB. Several attempts were made to fire a rocket a line across but this prove much for the ilb crew to pull across with M Crozier getting dragged into the sea by the weight of the rope and having to be cut free by D Stewart. One more attempted was made to launch the ILB with crewman aboard this was done once day light arrived but again the crew were washed out of the boat. The final attempted was a line floated from the ALB to the crew on the beach who pulled a tow line ashore this was done succesfully ,the tow line was attached to the ILB and then the ALB towed the empty ILB to sea. The ILB crew made there way back to Bridlington by road with the coastguard., while the ALB towed the ILB back to station. Both boats arriving back at Bridlington at 09.00am nearly 6 hours after launching. The ILB sustained some minor damage and was taken off service temporary.
